    Common knowledge of magnetic materials: NdFeB magnets

    NdFeB magnets are called “magnet kings”. They are the magnets with the highest commercial performance at present. They are small in size, light in weight, and have strong magnetism. They have an excellent performance-price ratio, and the maximum magnetic energy product is more than 10 times that of ferrites. They have good machining performance, working temperature up to 200 degrees Celsius, hard texture, stable performance, and wide application. However, due to their strong chemical activity, they must be surface-coated.

    They can be divided into bonded NdFeB and sintered NdFeB. It is expected that no alternative materials will appear in the next 20-30 years. The main raw materials for production are neodymium metal, pure iron, boron-iron alloy and other additives. The core technology of the industry is reflected in the manufacturing process, such as product uniformity and consistency.

    NdFeB has a temperature resistance of about 200 degrees Celsius. Overheating will cause demagnetization, and the higher the temperature, the more serious the demagnetization. Note when using: avoid excessive temperature, adjust the working environment in time; improve product stability from a technical point of view; choose high coercivity materials, and use samarium cobalt when necessary; and consider it carefully when designing.

    Classification

    NdFeB is mainly divided into bonded NdFeB and sintered NdFeB.

    Bonded NdFeB is magnetic in all directions and corrosion-resistant.

    Sintered NdFeB is easy to corrode and needs to be plated on the surface. Common ones are zinc plating and nickel plating, among which nickel plating is divided into many types. It is generally divided into axial magnetization and radial magnetization according to the requirements of the working surface.

    Features

    As the latest achievement in the development of rare-earth permanent magnet materials, NdFeB is called the “king of magnets” because of its excellent magnetic properties. It is an alloy of neodymium, iron oxide, etc., also known as magnetic steel. It has an extremely high magnetic energy product and coercivity. Its high energy density makes it widely used in modern industry and electronic technology, and promotes the miniaturization of various equipment. The advantages are high cost performance and good mechanical properties; the disadvantages are low Curie temperature, poor temperature characteristics, easy powdering and corrosion, and the need to be improved by adjusting chemical composition and surface treatment to meet practical applications. The third generation of rare earth permanent magnet NdFeB has the strongest performance. The main raw materials contain rare earth metals neodymium, iron, boron, and a small amount of other elements. It is based on the intermetallic compound RE₂FE₁₄B. Each component can be appropriately replaced. Boron plays a key role in forming a specific crystal structure.

    Surface treatment

    With the development of technology and industrial progress, the quality of sintered NdFeB products has improved, and the requirements for surface treatment have increased. Traditional methods can no longer meet the needs. After 4 years of hard work, scientific research institutions have made breakthroughs in the non-plating treatment technology of nano (3010) chelated film.

    1) Nano (Royce3010) chelated film non-plating treatment: the film contains more than three active chelating groups and has a thickness of 10 nanometers. Resistant to corrosion by a variety of substances, with strong bonding ability to organic resins.

    2) Phosphating;

    3) Electroplating: mainly nickel plating and zinc plating. Nickel plating is divided into many types, each with its own characteristics and applicable situations, and can be further processed after plating.

    4) Electrophoresis;

    5) Vacuum vapor deposition: including physical and chemical vapor deposition, which can form a variety of plating and coatings;

    6) Chemical plating;

    7) Organic spraying.
